gallery's had my work since october, sold two, still hasn't paid me
so. a gallery has had eleven of my pieces since october. sold two that i actually know about. ive emailed four times asking about payment and every answer gets vaguer than the last, "doing our accounts soon" was the most recent one, three weeks ago. im not naming them yet because some stupid part of me still hopes this is incompetence and not the other thing. has anyone ever actually gotten money out of a situation like this or do i just turn up in person

Oh, that is so difficult. I feel for you. That waiting, that uncertainty, it grates on you, doesn't it? It is hard when the trust you place in a gallery feels broken. I had a small situation once, not quite like this, but where a space was very slow to pay, and the feeling of helplessness was the worst part. I do not know if there is a magic answer, but I found with that one, after the emails went nowhere, a calm, direct conversation in person made a difference. Sometimes the physicality of it shifts things. I hope it resolves well for you.
joder, thanks for sharing. the helplessness is exactly it. you pour yourself into the work, and then you're just… waiting. for money, for an answer. i think you're right, maybe i just need to go show up there. see if their accounts suddenly get done when I'm standing in front of them. que te vaya bien.
