How to post reels on various platforms?
I made a short reel on my phone recently and shared it on Instagram. A little later, I realized I wanted it on Facebook too, so I had to upload it all over again. It got me wondering if there's a better way to publish the same reel to both platforms without doing everything twice.
I've seen Instagram's cross-posting option, but it doesn't always seem to appear. Is there a reliable workflow that works consistently?
I'm also curious whether using Instagram's cross-posting changes how a reel performs on Facebook or Instagram compared to uploading it separately to each platform.

Honestly I'm probably the wrong person to ask, I use Instagram the way a grandmother does and barely touch Facebook anymore. But I've had students ask me the same thing and the consensus I hear is that the cross-posting option is temperamental and yes, it does seem to affect reach on both ends. Facebook and Instagram both quietly favor native uploads. The people I know who care about numbers upload separately, even if it's annoying.
The one thing I'd say from my own corner: I post my work-in-progress clips just on Instagram and let it be. If a piece takes me three weeks to cut and set, I'm not fighting with an algorithm on top of it. Do it twice if the reach matters to you, do it once if it doesn't. Life's short. 🙂
That tracks with what I've heard too. Cross-posting always feels like a shortcut that costs you a little something you can't quite see. I've never compared numbers myself because honestly my reach is small enough that it's hard to tell what's the platform and what's just me being inconsistent, haha.
I do the same as you though, just post the work-in-progress clips on Instagram and leave Facebook out of it entirely. There's something nice about one place staying simple, without the pressure of performing for two audiences at once. Do your students actually bother with Facebook at all, or is it mostly Instagram these days? Here in Poland Facebook is still kind of the old default for artists but I get the sense it's fading even for that.
