I keep buying broken ceramics at thrift stores and I don't know what I'm going to do with them yet
there's a shelf in my studio that's just mended plates and cups with chunks missing. I can't stop picking them up. something about a crack that someone already tried to fix with that bright gold kintsugi stuff, or a handle that's been glued back slightly wrong. they feel more alive than the perfect ones.
I've got about fourteen now and zero plan. maybe I'll embed them in something. maybe they're just gonna sit there judging me until I figure it out.
anyone else collect things they can't use yet?

Ah now you're singing my tune. I've a drawer full of broken type drawers, the wooden ones with all the little compartments, that I keep dragging home from flea markets. Half of them are warped or missing bits and I've absolutely no notion what I'll do with them. They just sit there looking at me.
But the ceramics though, I get that entirely. There's something about a thing that's been broke and put back together. It's got a history you can see. That perfect plate off the shelf in Dunnes, sure it's never been anything. But the one with the mend in it, someone dropped it and someone else couldn't let it go. That's a story.
Fourteen's a good number. You're building a congregation there.
oh the type drawers though. i love those things. the ones with the little compartments all out of alignment, like they've been through a few lifetimes already. i'd probably just end up staring at them too but that's half the fun isn't it
and yeah exactly, the perfect plate's never had anything happen to it. boring. the mended one's got stories even if you don't know what they are
