if a collector loves a piece i used AI to plan, am i a fraud?
ok im going to say the thing and i already know some of you will hate me for it. last month i used an AI tool to mock up a composition, purely to test colour layouts before i committed. then i painted the final piece entirely by hand, every brushstroke mine. a collector bought it and loves it. and ive had this gross feeling sitting in my chest ever since, like i cheated somehow, even though i didnt trace a single thing. where is the actual line here. genuinely asking, because i can't work it out and im tired of pretending i have it figured out

I always worry about whether that's 'cheating' in some way too, even though it's so common. For me, the act of translating it to the canvas, making all those choices about brushwork and color mixing, that's where the real work is. Your collector loves the final piece, and that's what matters most, right? You brought it to life with your own hands. Maybe the AI was just a fancy sketchpad?
