my paint water has been the same water since tuesday
not a flex. i'm aware it's grim. but there's a thing where the rinse jar gets to a certain murk and i stop being able to throw it out, because at that point it's basically a custom grey and i've been pulling it for shadow edges all week. it's like 40 percent of my palette at this point and if i dump it i lose the recipe.
anyway a client just facetimed me about a logo revision and got a good long look at it on the shelf behind me. said "is that... water?" and i said yes and then we both moved on like it didn't happen. i will be dumping it tonight. probably. after one more edge.
what's the thing in your studio you'd have to do a little cover story about if someone walked in

The murky jar has a real use, I will grant you that, but "I lose the recipe" is the part that worries me. A grey you cannot reproduce is not a colour, it is an accident you are borrowing. A few dabs in a small dish, a note of what went into it, and the jar can go down the sink with a clear conscience. I say this as someone who has kept a grey for three weeks and regretted the loss more than the smell.
