Okay, so I'm about to try and approach a gallery in person for the first time ever and I'm kind of freaking out lol
I've done the email thing but never actually walked in somewhere with my portfolio. Does anyone have any tips for making a good first impression or just like, what do you even say when you get there? I'm so worried I'll just freeze up or say something dumb. It's a local place I really admire but omg my palms are already sweaty just thinking about it haha. Any advice is SO appreciated!! 🙏

Oh wow, that sounds so nerve-wracking! It's completely understandable your palms are sweaty, I would be the same. It's so brave of you to go in person, especially to a place you admire so much. I haven't done this myself for a gallery, usually just submitted online, but I did have to present my work to a small local collector once and felt like I was going to faint. What helped me a little was just having a few sentences ready to say about why I admired that particular gallery, maybe mentioning an artist they represent whose work speaks to you. Just showing you've done your homework and have genuine appreciation can go a long way, I think? And maybe have one or two pieces you're ready to talk about specifically if they ask. Deep breaths! omg thank you so much for this! yeah it really is brave lol, i feel like i'm going to throw up. i love that advice about mentioning an artist they represent, that's brilliant! i'll definitely prep a few talking points about why i love their current show and specific artists. i'm so glad i'm not the only one who gets nervous presenting, makes me feel a little better about potentially fainting haha. thanks again, this is actually super helpful! 🙏🙂
