sold a piece to a stranger and she asked for the title written on the back
the piece was one of the ones I nearly threw out. small thing, paper and charcoal over a photo I found at an estate sale in Allentown, half of it a mess I left in on purpose because the mess was the point.
she bought it at the open studio thing I did two weekends ago. didn't ask what it meant, didn't ask for a discount. just stood in front of it a long time and then said she wanted the title on the back in my handwriting, not a printed card.
I've sold maybe four things in my life and every one of those felt like somebody doing me a favor. this one didn't.
anyway I wrote the title on the back in pencil and then sat in the car for a minute before I drove home.
