That quiet space between the noise
I find myself drawn to the silence more than ever lately. Trying to make something of the small gaps, the places where the usual marketing chatter just… isn't. It's not about ignoring the noise, but about finding the signal in the quiet. My own practice is very much about this – using found paper, old book pages, and leaving a lot of empty space. It’s about what’s not there as much as what is. Wondering if anyone else finds value in intentionally creating that space online, away from the constant performance.

This really speaks to me. I feel this so much, especially with my art. It's easy to feel like you have to fill every space, every moment, with something 'productive' or 'visible.' But I also find that the quiet moments, the pauses, are where the real thinking and feeling happens. For my pastels, it's often the untouched paper around the figure that gives it form. It's hard to trust that empty space though, isn't it? Like you're not doing enough. Thank you for putting this feeling into words.
The empty space is the hardest part, yes. It is a kind of courage to leave it. In my work, the viewer has to walk through the gaps, to feel the weight of the missing things. It is not so different from your pastels, I think. The silence speaks.
It is a courage. Yes. And sometimes that doubt you mention is loud. But the paper is there for a reason. If it did not need to be there, it would not be. The form comes from the edges, yes, and the space around it. It is a kind of truth.
