the gallery that took six months to reply then acted like I was the one who'd been slow
I once followed up with a gallery four times over six months. When they finally wrote back, they said "we're still looking at your work, please be patient" like I was the one dragging my feet.
I almost laughed. Almost.
What's the longest you've waited for a gallery to get back to you? And did you still want to work with them after?

four times over six months is crazy lol i think my record is like... five months and they only replied because i happened to run into them at a market and they recognised me. felt like i'd been waiting for a sign from the universe or something.
honestly it depends on the gallery for me. if it's a space i actually admire and the work fits, i'll hold onto some patience even if the communication is terrible. artists are supposed to be the unprofessional ones but here we are. but if they act like they're doing you a favour just by replying? that energy never gets better after you're in. i'd rather sell out of my messy studio than deal with that forever.
Running into them at a market, that's not patience, that's fate doing the gallery's job for them. I don't know if that's reassuring or the opposite.
And you're right about the favour-energy. That's the thing. Bad communication I can live with, galleries are chaos. But that tone, like you should be grateful they looked at all, that's not a red flag, that's the whole parade.
