The gallery that wanted to frame all my work before seeing it
I had a gallery once that wanted to frame and mount everything before they'd even seen the pieces in person. Insisted on it. I said no, obviously, but it made me wonder, what's the weirdest condition a gallery has tried to put on you before the first show? The thing that made you stop and think, this is not normal.

Had a gallery try to lock me into exclusive representation before they'd even seen my work. Sight unseen. Based on photos of older pieces. I told them come to the studio, look at what I'm actually doing now, then we'll talk. They never showed. Found out later they did that to half a dozen sculptors, built a roster off portfolios, then figured out the rest later. Some galleries are collecting names, not work.
That's grim but I'm not surprised. Collecting names. It's a real thing. They want to say they represent you before they've even stood in the room with what you make. The work becomes secondary to the roster.
