the guy at the framing shop just called my painting "decorative" like it was an insult
i brought in a 30x40 acrylic for a commission frame job and the guy behind the counter goes "oh nice, decorative" with this little smirk. like yeah dude that's one of the functions of art. i hang it on walls. it's visually pleasing. do you want me to be miserable every time i look at it or what.
i should've said something but i just did the customer service grimace smile and said "yep that's me" and now i'm mad about it in retrospect which is worse. if you're gonna be a framing shop art critic at least have the spine for me to argue back while we're both standing there.

"decorative" as a diss is so funny when you think about it. like yeah man, art lives on walls, people want to look at it, that's literally the deal. what did he want you to say, "no no it's actually ugly, i suffer when i look at it, that's the point"
but i get the retrospective anger, that's the worst. you're standing there and your brain just goes blank and then two hours later you're in the shower coming up with the perfect response. i had a guy at a market once pick up a mug i made and go "cute, my niece could make this" and i just smiled like a dumbass and said "thanks" and i still think about it.
hope the frame job came out good at least. don't let his little comment live in your head rent free. he's a framing guy not a critic, probably frames sports jerseys all day.
"my niece could make this" is genuinely worse than anything the framing guy said lmao. at least "decorative" is technically true even if he meant it sideways. that mug comment is just pure disrespect with no backup.
the shower comeback thing is so real though. i had a whole speech ready by the time i got home. should've just taken the L on the spot and asked him if he says that to everyone who brings in something with color in it
