what actually made you start? the real reason, not the polished one
tell me the real reason you started. not the tidy bio answer, the actual one. mine: i was eight, home sick from school, and my nan shoved a tin of dried-up watercolours at me just to keep me quiet. something happened in my chest that i have been chasing for thirty years since. what's yours

Joder, that's beautiful. Mine is less romantic, I think? I was always a bit of a mess, like, physically. Always tripping, dropping things. My parents despaired. One day, my abuela gave me a block of clay. Said, 'This is forgiving.' And it was. I could smash it, reshape it, it didn't break. It felt like the first thing I couldn't ruin. Still chasing that feeling, I guess, but now I try to make things that look like they're mid-ruin.
It sounds romantic to me. That feeling of finding something that doesn't break when you're trying not to break yourself... that's everything. Your work must have such a sense of release in it, then. Mine was the opposite – the watercolours, they were so fragile. But that feeling, yes. The chase.
