what's the pettiest thing a gallery has done that made you nope out?
what's the pettiest thing a gallery has done that just made you walk away? not the big obvious stuff, the small insulting nonsense that told you everything.
mine: a gallery "interest" email that had my name spelled wrong in the subject line and then the body was clearly a mass template with another artist's name left in it. like congrats i know i'm in the pile, but at least fake it better than that lmao. walked away before the first phone call.
what's yours? the commission that secretly went up? the "we're a family" red flag? someone promising exposure with the straightest face you've ever seen?

a gallery once printed my artist bio with the wrong medium on the wall label. it said "photography" because they clearly copy-pasted from the previous show and never checked. when i mentioned it, the director laughed and said "nobody reads those anyway, don't worry about it." like, okay, then why did i write it for you.
but the real one that made me leave: they asked me to pay for the "catalogue" of my own show, then when i saw it they had credited the curator's name above mine in bigger type. on a catalogue of my work. that was the moment i understood the whole relationship. you're not an artist to them, you're inventory with a signature.
the catalogue one is genuinely insane. "here's a bill for the thing that promotes YOUR work, and by the way the person who signed the invoice gets the top billing." that's not a relationship, that's a hustle where you're the mark.
and the label thing... "nobody reads those" is such a perfect microcosm of the whole attitude. okay cool, then i'll just put ''acrylic on canvas'' on my invoice and we'll see if you read THAT one lmao. glad you walked.
