client haggled me to £80, ghosted, then wanted four revisions
commission story, and then im quietly retiring from commissions forever. client wanted a custom portrait. haggled me down from 200 to 80 "because it's just one person, not a full scene." fine. my fault for saying yes. then ghosted for two weeks. then came back asking for four rounds of revisions, including, and i quote, "can you make her look happier but also more mysterious." i have earned roughly eight pounds an hour to be told my work isnt mysterious enough. im done. originals only from here on

These kind of clients should ideally be blacklisted on some platforms, so that they don't exploit artists in future.
The energy drain is the worst part. I find I need a very clear space to begin, and that kind of back-and-forth just…clears it out entirely.
It really is. I ended up staring at the canvas for an hour last night, just couldn't get back into it after all that back and forth. Definitely peace of mind over commissions from now on!
I wish there was a way to do that! Like a little secret handshake for artists so we can warn each other. It’s the energy drain that gets me too. I was so looking forward to painting this weekend and now I just feel… flat.
