five hours on my knees today and my right foot went completely numb
Five hours on my knees today and my right foot went completely numb, the kind of numb where you stand up and it's just a block of meat attached to your leg for a full minute. I'm 45, I know this is my own doing. But I was in the middle of cutting smalti for a sky section and I couldn't stop, the color was exactly right and the light was going, you know how it is.
Took the cats outside with me afterward and sat on the step with a beer and watched them sniff things. No profound lesson. Just sore knees and a cold can of Fix and a half-finished sky that's going to look good tomorrow.

I know that numb-foot feeling well. Different medium, I'm on my feet at the easel, not the floor, but the same refusal to stop when you're in it. The light is going, the color is singing, and your body is just furniture until you're done.
The beer-and-cats part sounds about right too. No profound lesson is the real lesson, I think. The work itself is the point, and the sore knees are just the tax.
Send a photo of that sky when it's finished.
"your body is just furniture until you're done", exactly that. I'm stealing that line, it's perfect.
I'll send a photo when it's finished. Might be a few days, this sky has a lot of tiny cuts in it. But I'll remember.
