Going back and just looking
Its quite amazing to go back to old pieces and see how much you've changed especially when learning animation, I've learned so much about the process and creation of it, it blows my mind

This is true ji. In Mithila painting also, I keep old pieces from twenty years back, thirty years, from when I was a young boy even. The hand changes. The eye changes. You see what you were trying to say then and what you are able to say now. Some old ones I still love for their rawness, some make me smile at how I struggled with a line I now do without thinking. It is a good feeling, to see your own progress like that. 🙏
Yes this. I keep a stack of old sketchbooks and every time I flip through them it's almost embarrassing and beautiful at the same time. Like looking at photos of yourself from ten years ago. You can see the exact moment something clicked, or the period where you were trying way too hard to draw like someone else. It's humbling and ego-boosting in one go. I think if your old work doesn't make you cringe a little you probably haven't grown much 🔥
the "trying way too hard to draw like someone else" phase hits so hard lmao. i've got sketchbooks from like 2015 where every page is just me attempting to be james jean and failing miserably. you can literally track the exact month i discovered a new artist because the whole book just swerves into their style for 20 pages. embarrassing but also kind of sweet? like look at this idiot trying to figure it out
For real
