I draw standing up now and my knees hate me
Somewhere along the way I stopped sitting down to paint and I didn't notice until my husband asked why I was hovering over the table like a waiter.
It's a drafting habit I never shook off. Architect for eight years, you stand at the board, you step back, you come close, you step back again. Sitting makes me commit too early. Standing, I keep moving, and somehow the line stays looser, which is exactly what I'm trying to learn. My colour work is stiff enough as it is.
Downside is the knees. Forty minutes in, A4 old house near Basavanagudi, and I'm shifting weight like a bored horse. Managed to knock over my water jar twice yesterday. The second time it went over a half finished sketch of a tiled roof and honestly the smear looked better than what I'd painted.
Do any of you work standing? Or is this just me refusing to grow up about furniture.
