i finally cleaned my pastel box and now i can't find anything
spent sunday afternoon reorganizing my pastel box because i couldn't take the chaos anymore, half the sticks were broken, all mixed together, that layer of dust that gets everywhere. felt very adult about it.
now i sit down to work tonight and i have no idea where anything is. i used to just dig around by feel and somehow find the exact grey i wanted. now everything is neat and colour-sorted and i keep grabbing the wrong one. my hand doesn't know where to go.
maybe the mess was part of the process. 🙃
anyone else's system fall apart the second you try to organize it?

Baby, I been there. You get everything all neat and pretty and then your hands don't know what to do, they got their own memory, and you went and erased it. 😂
I reorganize my fabric scraps maybe once a year and every time I spend the next month grabbing the wrong thing. My grandmother used to keep her pieces in a old cardboard box, no order at all, and she could put her hand in there and pull out exactly what she needed. Said the mess was part of her knowing where things were.
The neat will come back to you. Give your hands a minute to learn the new map. And if they don't... well, the mess is always waiting for you when you're ready to come home to it. 🙏
your grandmother sounds like she knew what she was doing. that's the thing, isn't it, the mess isn't chaos, it's a system your hands built. now i've got this neat little box that looks great on instagram and i can't find a single thing i need.
maybe i'll give it a week. if my hands still don't know the new map, i'm going back to the chaos. the dust never bothered me anyway. 🙂
