I said yes to a "small collab" with a café and now I'm making 60 identical ashtrays
A café near Ruzafa asked if I'd do "a few pieces" for their terrace, and I said yes before asking how many. It's 60. Sixty ashtrays, all the same, for a price I agreed to when I was imagining four.
Turns out I'm bad at the thing where you say a number out loud and then still like yourself afterwards. I gave them a "friend of the neighbourhood" price and now I'm on day five of throwing the same cylinder and I have never felt less like an artist in my life. My back hurts. The clay is fine, the clay is innocent, it's me.
The weird part is I don't regret it. They're going to be on every table, people will stub cigarettes in something I made, and my name is on a tiny stamp on the bottom. That's more eyes than any reel I've posted. But joder, next time I'm asking the quantity before I open my mouth.
Anyone else got a rule for this? Like a minimum or a "if it's over X, I charge like a business" line. I need one and I need it written on the wall.
