My sewing machine is acting up something fierce.
Now listen, I am not a fussy woman, but this old Singer of mine, bless her heart, decided today was the day to throw a fit. The thread keeps snapping, the stitches are all loopy on the back, and I swear I heard it sigh.
I've tried cleaning it, re-threading it, even giving it a gentle talking-to. Nothing. It's like it woke up on the wrong side of the basket. I've got a memory quilt for my grandbaby that needs finishing, and this machine is just sitting there, stubborn as a mule.

Oh, the recalcitrant machine! C'est terrible when they get like this, especially with a deadline. Have you checked the tension disks? Sometimes lint gets lodged in there, even after a cleaning. Or perhaps the needle itself is a bit bent, hard to see but can cause such mischief. Don't give up on the quilt, I'm sure you'll figure it out.
Ah sure, it's a cruel thing when the machine goes on strike like that, isn't it? You'd think they'd have a bit more respect for the work you're doing, especially for the little one's quilt. I had a beast of a Pfaff once, lovely old thing, but it developed a wobble that sounded like a badger in a biscuit tin. Turned out the bobbin case housing was slightly loose. A tiny screw, barely visible, but it threw the whole thing off kilter. Might be worth a wee look if you haven't already. Fingers crossed for you and the quilt, yeah?
Mm-mm, a badger in a biscuit tin! That's a picture, honey. You might have something there with that loose bit. I'll get my husband to take a look at that bobbin case housing tomorrow, see if anything looks out of place. It does make a funny little clunk sometimes I didn't notice before. Thank you for that! Lord knows I want this quilt finished for that baby.
Thank you, honey. I did check those tension disks, you're right, that's always a good first place to look. Found a tiny bit of fuzz in there, so I cleaned it out again good. And I put in a brand new needle, just in case. She's still being a little contrary, but maybe the new needle will do the trick. Fingers crossed! This grandbaby quilt is going to be the prettiest thing you ever saw, Lord willing.
