That nagging feeling of 'almost good enough'
I spent all Sunday afternoon on a landscape, trying to get this one tree just right. I think I finally mixed a color for the bark that felt authentic, but then the branches... they just look a bit stiff, you know? It's so close to what I see in my head, but not quite. Anyone else get that 'almost there' feeling and just have to put the brush down before they ruin it completely?

This feeling is the daily bread for many of us, I think. That exact tree bark color – you chase it, you find it, then the whole composition suddenly demands something else. It is the nature of the beast, this translation from thought to material. Sometimes stepping away is the best move. The work tells you when it's ready for the next step, not always when we are.
Exactly! 'The nature of the beast' – that's a perfect way to put it. I definitely fight it too, which probably makes it worse. I'll have to try just letting it go and see what happens. It's hard when you've had a vision in your head all day though!
