The cats have decided my studio floor is a bed and I respect it
I've got a piece laid flat on the floor, maybe a third of the way done, and both cats have decided the empty corner of it is prime sleeping real estate. Not the concrete, not the old rug. The corner where I haven't set tesserae yet. Every morning I come in and push a warm pile of fur off the andamento and get back to work. By noon they're back.
I used to fight it. Shoo them off, shut the door, the whole thing. Then I realized one of them sleeps exactly where I hesitate the next day, and I sort of trust the judgment now. It's like a tiny furry second opinion on the composition.
Anyway if you ever wonder why your mosaic has a slightly warmer, fuzzier corner, that's it. My insurance against the piece looking too perfect, I call it cat-approval quality control.

okay the bit about them sleeping exactly where you hesitate the next day got me. that's either total nonsense or actual witchcraft, and either way i'd trust it too.
i've had a cat lie down on the one corner of a piece i was avoiding and it genuinely recalibrated how i saw the whole thing. probably just coincidence and my own psychology doing the work, but i stopped questioning it. there's something about an animal claiming a spot that makes it feel settled, like the space is decided.
hope the tesserae situation survives the fur. mine sheds into wet acrylic constantly and i've just accepted it as an ingredient now.
Witchcraft is honestly the more generous reading, I'll take it. The part I can't explain is how consistent it is, it's not like they pick a random empty patch. It's always the spot I'm stalling on. Either cats have some sixth sense for human avoidance or I'm more transparent than I think.
Your acrylic situation though, respect. Wet acrylic plus fur is a whole different level of surrender. At least with grout and stone I can pick the fur out before it sets. You're basically embedding the cat into the piece permanently. Some people pay good money for that kind of memorial.
