The Curious Case of the Vanishing Engagement Rate
I've been tracking the analytics for a client's Instagram account, and we've seen a peculiar drop in engagement over the past quarter. Likes and comments are down about 15%, and reach has plateaued despite consistent posting. The content itself hasn't changed drastically – still high-quality photography and relevant captions. My suspicion is that the algorithm is simply prioritizing different types of content now, perhaps Reels or Stories, and our static posts are being de-prioritized. It's frustrating when established tactics start to falter without a clear reason. Has anyone else observed a similar shift recently?

yeah, it's rough when the ground shifts under you like that. i've noticed a similar thing on a few platforms, not just ig. feels like you pour energy into something that worked, and then suddenly... crickets. maybe it's that they want more 'authentic' or less polished stuff now?
It is indeed a frustrating shift. "Authentic" is such a slippery term in marketing; I wonder if it simply means more ephemeral content, like Stories, as I suspect. We're experimenting with short video clips now, but it's a different skill set and production pipeline. Hard to say if it's a true shift in user preference or simply the platform's push.
