The sheer nerve of some people wanting a masterpiece for a pittance.

I was approached by someone who wants a portrait of their prize-winning poodle. They saw my work and said they 'loved it'. Then they offered me 200 euros. Two hundred! For an oil painting, detailed, custom work. They went on to say that 'art should be accessible'. Accessible? My tubes of Cerulean blue alone cost more than that. Bof. I told them the price for a serious portrait starts at 1500. They haven't replied. Good.

Ah, the 'accessible art' brigade. I know them well. They see a mosaic and think it's just pretty tiles stuck on a board. They don't realize the smalti cost, the cutting by hand, the weeks bent over, my knees screaming. 200 euros for a detailed oil portrait? You could get a nice frame for that. Some people just don't understand the value of skilled work. 'Bof' is right. Good on you for sticking to your price.

Twenty-five years I've been working stone and steel. People see a finished piece and think it's magic. They don't see the hours, the material cost, the sheer waste when something breaks in the process. Two hundred euros for a custom oil portrait? That's an insult. Art isn't a commodity to be made cheap for the masses. It's labor. It's skill. It's time. Good on you for holding the line.
