Pulled it out today to sweep up. There's a century of limestone dust caked into the folds, plus a wad of cured 5 minute epoxy from a commission I don't want to think about. My wife used to make me throw them out once a year. I don't anymore.

There's something useful in a dirty floor. It tells you where you stand without lying. Every chisel mark, every dropped mallet head. A clean shop is a shop where nothing is getting made.

I know some of you keep your benches photo-ready. I don't get it. Half the time I don't even sweep until the dust gets into my coffee cup.

Anyway. Sanding a limestone base today, nothing else. Anyone else superstitious about their mess?
