What's the worst red flag you've seen walking into a gallery? I'll start.
Walked into one years back, guy never looked up from his desk, talked about my work for ten minutes without asking a single question about how it was made. I knew right then.
What's the red flag that told you to walk?

Myself Ramesh, Mithila painting from Madhubani. For us the gallery is not so much the problem, the middleman is. The one who says "this is very ethnic, very tribal" and then asks how many pieces you can give by next month. He has already decided what the work is before seeing it. When someone asks nothing about the pigments, nothing about who taught you, nothing about which story the painting is telling, that is the sign. The work has become stock for him.
But I will say one thing also. Some of the younger ones in my area now paint only for that kind of buyer, fast lines, no meaning, and they get good money. So I am not sure the red flag is always the gallery. Sometimes the artist learns to walk in wearing it. 🙏
