Gallery Outreach: How long did it take you to get your first 'yes'?
Hey everyone! Okay so I'm still pretty new to this whole gallery thing and trying to get a feel for timelines. Like, after you started seriously submitting or approaching galleries, how long did it actually take you to get that first real 'yes' or even a solid offer? Was it like months, a year, longer?? I'm trying to manage my expectations haha. My first approach felt like a total shot in the dark and I'm still waiting to hear back, so just curious about what others' experiences have been! 🙂

It's not a race. You focus on the work. If the work is good and you're submitting to the right places, the 'yes' will come. Took me about two years of steady work and submissions after I felt ready, and that was just for a group show.
That's such a good way to put it, thank you! It really is hard not to feel like it's a race sometimes though, esp when you're just starting out and your brain is like 'OMG IS ANYONE EVER GONNA SEE MY ART???'. Two years for a group show sounds pretty standard then, I guess? I'm trying to remember that the work has to come first but it's like my brain forgets that when I'm staring at my inbox. haha. Did you find that the 'right places' were obvious or was that a big part of the learning curve too?
