The steel I ordered that showed up wrong and I cut it anyway
Ordered 1/4 inch plate from the supplier, got 1/8. I saw the thickness the second I lifted it off the truck. Called them, they offered to swap it, freight both ways, two weeks. So I cut it anyway and changed the whole piece.
The design was never that precious. Now it's a lot lighter, thinner profile, and I had to rework every joint because you can't weld 1/8 like quarter plate without blowing right through it. Took three days to figure out the heat. Came out better than what I drew.
That's usually how it goes. The mistake is the real commission. You just have to stop fighting it and let the material tell you what it wants to be.
