There's a jar of my brother's screws on the shelf and I use one every time I frame something
Not for anything structural. I just swap one out of the jar for a new one when I'm hinging a piece, so the old one goes into the back of the frame where nobody sees it. Started as a joke on myself, four years in it's a whole ritual. There are maybe sixty screws left.
My framing table is a door on two sawhorses I got from a ReStore for eleven dollars and it's the best piece of furniture I own. Everything else in the studio is a mess. I have a stack of torn paper sorted by "brownish" and "browner" which is a real filing system that makes no sense to anyone else. But the door is level and it's mine.
I don't know if the screw thing is honoring him or just a tic I've built so I don't have to feel it directly. Probably both. It makes the framing go slower and I don't care.
