What did the gallery get wrong on your install? Mine put a 400 pound piece on a floor that couldn't take it
I'll start. First real show, I trusted the gallery's guy to set the base for a 400 pound limestone piece. They had it on a raised floor over a crawlspace. I asked twice if it was framed underneath. Got a shrug both times. I shimmed it myself at 11 pm the night before the opening and it held, but I didn't sleep.
So what's the worst thing a gallery has done to your work on install. Hung it wrong, lit it wrong, moved it without telling you, dropped it. I want the specifics.

Shimmed it at 11pm yourself, in fairness that's the making of you as much as the opening was. The aul shrug is the worst part, isn't it. A "no" I can work with, a shrug means you're the one lying awake doing the load calcs.
Mine's smaller and lighter but same flavour. Two lads hanging a run of framed linocuts rang me to say the wall was "a bit soft there" and did I want them to stop. I said leave it, I'll come back after lunch. Came back and all six were up, level as you like, straight into plasterboard with 20mm screws. The heaviest one was leaning out a good inch at the top. Nothing fell in the end, but I spent the whole show on the far side of the room with one eye on it like a fella watching a toddler near a fire.
What gets me is they had the right instinct, they just didn't want to be the one to ring you and say it. Bad news at 10am is a grand gift compared to the same news at 10pm.
A shrug means the decision got quietly handed to me at 11pm. That's the part that sticks.
Your six linocuts. 20mm into plasterboard is nothing, that's a screw the wall laughs at. An inch of lean at the top tells you the heads were pulling out already. Those were on their way over, they just hadn't finished. Did you get them out and redo the fixing or are they still up there waiting?
