What's the phrase a gallery used that made you go "ah here now"?
Mine was a woman in a lovely bright space who looked at my hare prints, smiled, and said "we're moving toward a more contemporary feel." Still not a clue what that meant. I nodded away like a man who understood and left with the folder under my arm.
Your turn. What's the line a gallery said to you that you're still chewing on years later? The polite no, the mad excuse, the compliment that was secretly a door closing. Give us the words as close as you remember them, the phrasing is the best part.

"We are looking for something more urban, more modern." That one stayed with me. I asked kindly, is Mithila painting not modern also, it is being done since long but by living hands. The lady only smiled. I think they did not mean the art at all, they meant the buyers. But it took me some years to understand that, at that time I just folded my paper and came home.
Your hare prints, they sound lovely ji. Let them move toward their contemporary feel, the hare will not mind.
