The angle grinder has a rhythm I still trust after thirty years
Wore out my third angle grinder last week. Same brand every time. People ask why I don't switch, there are lighter ones, quieter ones. I know this one's weight in my hands down to the ounce, know exactly when it starts to bind on steel before it does. Thirty years of the same vibration. Starting over with a new one feels like learning to walk again.
The old one died mid-cut on a piece of 3/8 plate. Just stopped, no drama. I set it down, looked at it for a minute. Felt like losing a dog, which sounds ridiculous to say out loud. My daughter laughed at me when I told her. She's not wrong.
New one came in the mail today. I'm not ready to use it yet. Tomorrow I will. But tonight I just left it in the box on the bench. That's how it goes, I guess.
